My days in Rapa Nui (3)

Here I am again with another post on Rapa Nui.

The next destination was AKAHANGA.

There we could see a typical village without restoring. The houses were in the form of a boat. The base, HARE PAENGA , was made with "Paenga" which are volcanic rock with a hole where he placed the wooden poles that served as a skeleton for the building which was later covered with leaves of palm, reeds, logs, etc. Were short, 1.50 meters tall and measured input maso least 40 cms. Only used for sleeping. Fit between 20 and 60 people sleeping upright in a fetal position, facing each other. Obviously, it was where did the babies.

This is a UMU PAE (if I'm getting good notes.) This is an oven built with bricks species of volcanic stone placed on edge, located in front of the house where they cooked in much the same way as is done curanto, ie, heated volcanic stones, leaving a hole in the center is filled with food. The heat cooks the food rocks. In early times cooking was a kind of rat Hotu Matua brought from Polynesia with chicken, fish and sweet potato sweet potato is a characteristic of the island.

I've talked in the other post of the wars that kept the inhabitants of the island between them for over two centuries. During and after the war, people lived in caves like the one shown in the photograph. Are caves created by lava flows. Recall that Rapa Nui was formed by more than 80 volcanoes, of which 3 are the ones who gave it the form of a triangle: the Rano Kau, the Ranoraraku and the third which I did not score. It is assumed that this cave you can visit just the day before but had moved there a hive of bees and the matter was a bit dangerous so no thanks. Gossips say that when people ran out of food because of the war, began practicing cannibalism in the caves.

This is the moai moai is not.
Why? Because a moai moai is not until we put him on the beach facing the island and will roll their eyes. In this fallen moai they had not even made the eye sockets. The belief was that once acquired full supernatural power, MANA, to protect They assume that the island was left there because he ran out of material to remove (ie, wood) or simply because the war broke out.

and leave it up to here today.
